Koran: Distinguishes Muslims from non-Muslims in a hierarchy of relative values

All the great religions of the world preach that all people are equal. Only Islam differs according to the status of the humans.

Thus, the power of the Koran makes clear that Islam is not a universal brotherhood. It is merely a brotherhood of believers:

The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic religion). So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy. (49:10)

Not all people are equal in Islam. Slaves and disabled are not equal to healthy and free men (16:75-76). The Koran introduces the "Law of Equality", which sets different values of human life when looking at specific facts, such as the reimbursement of murder (2:178).

Muslim believers are never equal to non-Muslims:

Is one who is obedient to Allah, prostrating himself or standing (in prayer) during the hours of the night, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the Mercy of his Lord (like one who disbelieves)?
Say: "Are those who know equal to those who know not?" It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allah's Signs and Verses). (39:9)
Say (O Muhammad): "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "(It is) Allah."
Say: "Have you then taken (for worship) Auliya' (protectors, etc.) other than Him, such as have no power either for benefit or for harm to themselves?"
Say: "Is the blind equal to the one who sees? Or darkness equal to light? Or do they assign to Allah partners who created the like of His creation, so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed alike to them."
Say: "Allah is the Creator of all things, He is the One, the Irresistible." (13:16)

And do not marry Al-Mushrikat (idolatresses, etc.) till they believe (worship Allah Alone). And indeed a slave woman who believes is better than a (free) Mushrikah (idolatress, etc.), even though she pleases you. And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikun till they believe (in Allah Alone) and verily, a believing slave is better than a (free) Mushrik (idolater, etc.), even though he pleases you. Those (Al-Mushrikun) invite you to the Fire, but Allah invites (you) to Paradise and Forgiveness by His Leave, and makes His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to mankind that they may remember. (2:221)

The Koran clearly tells the Muslims that they are a preferred race, while those of other religions are "wicked"

You [true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah (legal ways, etc.)] are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden), and you believe in Allah. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fasiqun (disobedient to Allah - and rebellious against Allah's Command). (3:110)

As we shall see later, Allah condemns non-Muslims to hell, based only on their unbelief, while the faithful are rewarded with the best earthly comforts in the hereafter, including never-ending food, wine, and sex.

In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). (56:12)

A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). (56:13)

And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). (56:14)

(They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, (56:15)

Reclining thereon, face to face. (56:16)

They will be served by immortal boys, (56:17)

With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, (56:18)

Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. (56:19)

And fruit; that they may choose. (56:20)

And the flesh of fowls that they desire. (56:21)

And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), (56:22)

Like unto preserved pearls. (56:23)

A reward for what they used to do. (56:24)

No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.) (56:25)

But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace) ! (56:26)

And those on the Right Hand, - Who will be those on the Right Hand? (56:27)

(They will be) among thornless lote-trees, (56:28)

Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, (56:29)

In shade long-extended, (56:30)

By water flowing constantly, (56:31)

And fruit in plenty, (56:32)

Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, (56:33)

And on couches or thrones, raised high. (56:34)

Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. (56:35)

And made them virgins. (56:36)

Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. (56:37)

For those on the Right Hand. (56:38)

A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). (56:39)

And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). (56:40)

A large part of the Koran is focused on distinguishing Muslims from non-Muslims and fighting non-Muslims. Among other things, non-Muslims are described as ill (2:10), liars (2:99), stupid (2:171) and deceptive (3:73).

The first Sura of the Koran is a short prayer, repeated by devout Muslims every day, ending with these words:

Guide us to the Straight Way (1:6)
The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (such as the Jews), nor of those who went astray (such as the Christians). (1:7)

Muhammad was once asked whether these were Jews and Christians. His answer was, "Who else?" (Bukhari 56:662).

Since Allah makes such a strong distinction between Muslims and those outside of faith, it is only natural that Muslims should incorporate unequal treatment standards into their everyday lives. The Koran tells Muslims to be compassionate, but reckless for the unbelievers:

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and falling down prostrate (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. The mark of them (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (foreheads) from the traces of (their) prostration (during prayers). This is their description in the Taurat (Torah). But their description in the Injeel (Gospel) is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, it then becomes thick, and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allah has promised those among them who believe (i.e. all those who follow Islamic Monotheism, the religion of Prophet Muhammad till the Day of Resurrection) and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (i.e. Paradise).
(48:29)

The Arabic word used to describe the ideal treatment of non-Muslims (shin-dal-dal) is the same word used in over 25 passages in the Koran to describe how painfully Allah made the hell.

Islamic law forbids formal Muslim charity (in the form of Zakat payment) to meet the needs of non-believers.

Allah intends that Muslims triumph over the unbelievers:

Those (hyprocrites) who wait and watch about you; if you gain a victory from Allah, they say: "Were we not with you," but if the disbelievers gain a success, they say (to them): "Did we not gain mastery over you and did we not protect you from the believers?" Allah will judge between you (all) on the Day of Resurrection. And never will Allah grant to the disbelievers a way (to triumph) over the believers. (4:141)

The only acceptable position of non-Muslims against Muslims is submission to Islamic rule:

Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allah, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. (9:29)

A common critique of many Muslims is that they often behave arrogantly towards others. Now you know why.

Qur'an: Do not make friends with non-Muslims

MuslimeIn view of the fact that Allah hates all non-Muslims, to the extent that he even prevents them from knowing the truth, he leads them even to sin in order to condemn them to eternal torture for their unbelief and their transgressions, makes no sense if he intends to treat Muslims in the same way as they treat Muslims.

The Koran says that no true Muslim would ever love someone who opposes Islam, even if he is a family member:

You (O Muhammad) will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Ruh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And We will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily, it is the Party of Allah that will be the successful. (58:22)

There are at least nine passages in the Koran, where the faithful are warned against befriending with non-Muslims:

O you who believe! Take not for Auliya' (protectors or helpers or friends) disbelievers instead of believers. Do you wish to offer Allah a manifest proof against yourselves? (4:144)

In fact, anyone who has non-Muslims as friends can be accused of being a disbeliever:

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya' (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliya' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust). (5:51)

It must be noted that Christians, according to the Koran, were included in the ranks of the "unbelievers"

Surely, in disbelief are they who say that Allah is the Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary) . Say (O Muhammad): "Who then has the least power against Allah, if He were to destroy the Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), his mother, and all those who are on the earth together?" And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them. He creates what He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things. (5:17)

Muhammad said that unbelievers have something against Muslims. They seem to be harmless and friendly, but in reality they are corrupt and have evil intentions:

O you who believe! Take not as (your) Bitanah (advisors, consultants, protectors, helpers, friends, etc.) those outside your religion (pagans, Jews, Christians, and hypocrites) since they will not fail to do their best to corrupt you. They desire to harm you severely. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, but what their breasts conceal is far worse. Indeed We have made plain to you the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses) if you understand. (3:118)
And when you (Muslims) travel in the land, there is no sin on you if you shorten your Salat (prayer) if you fear that the disbelievers may attack you, verily, the disbelievers are ever unto you open enemies. (4:101)
Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad). (86:15)

Those who are outside of Islam are truly helpers of evil against Allah:

And they (disbelievers, polytheists, etc.) worship besides Allah, that which can neither profit them nor harm them, and the disbeliever is ever a helper (of the Satan) against his Lord. (25:55)

The Koran says that "enmity and hate" between Muslims and unbelievers will "exist forever" until they "believe in Allah alone". (60:4)

Instead of dealing with non-Muslims, the Koran calls for hostility towards unbelievers. Muslims have the order to fight against unbelievers:

O you who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are close to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who are the Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2). (9:123)

The Koran tells to the Muslims that they will spend eternity and will laugh about the unbelievers (83:34) and mock their sufferings as they are tormented in hell:

And the dwellers of Paradise will call out to the dwellers of the Fire (saying): "We have indeed found true what our Lord had promised us; have you also found true, what your Lord promised (warnings, etc.)?" They shall say: "Yes." Then a crier will proclaim between them: "The Curse of Allah is on the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)," (7:44)

Muhammad himself mocked his dead enemies after the Battle of Badr (Ibn Ishaq 454).

They are not friendly with those who are concerned about their suffering, and it makes no sense that Muslims would be friends with those whom the Koran described as "enemies of Allah" through his unbelief.

The tribe of Banu Qaynuqa

Banu QaynuqaThe early part of the Koran came into being when Muhammad lived in Mecca, a city with very few Jews and Jewish tribes. At that time, he presented himself to the Meccans as a Jewish prophet based on the stories he had learned from the Jews he had learned during his travels - and from his cousin Waraqa to a converted Jew (The Koran actually refers to this charge , But "Allah" denies it).

When Muhammad moved to Medina there were already three Jewish tribes, whose good graces he first needed, because he and his small bonds of Muslim immigrants were too weak. He tried to convince these Jews that he was the last in the succession of their own prophets and even changed the Qibla (prayer direction) to Jerusalem, the center of the Jewish world.

The Jews in Medina were not impressed by the esoteric assertions of Muhammad, especially since there were obvious discrepancies between their Torah and his version of the same stories. (In the Koran, the Bible is immature in the Bible and sounds more like a series of fairy tales with the same superfluous morality - believing Muhammad's claims about himself or experiencing earthly destruction and eternal torment).

When he was asked why he had no proof of his prophethood by performing miracles like the prophets of the past, Muhammad came up with a prudent apology that there was no point in the past since the Jews were prophets anyway (Koran 3:183-184). Thus Muhammad had nothing to offer but his own testimony.

The Prophet of Islam did not treat the Jewish rejection well, especially since his people had relied heavily on his many claims to be a prophet in the same way like Moses, Abraham and Jesus. Muhammad "solved" his dilemma by claiming that the Jews of Medina were heretics, and that his version of the Torah is a fake, since it "did not contain the verses" that supported his claims to be a prophet. (Interestingly, in spite of the many Jews, who were either converted to Islam from either compulsion or free will, the "unadulterated" Torah never came to light, which supposedly existed).

After Muhammad's victory against the Meccans in Badr, his wealth and power was so far that he could take care of his "Jewish problem". The words of the Koran are markedly harder to the "people of the book" in the Medina part of the text, and it goes into confrontation.

Much got done by the "constitution" of Medina, but the treaty that Muhammad created for all local tribes upon his arrival got temporarily forgotten. The Muslims have often forgotten to cancel or annul a contract. However, this contract got canceled after less than two years:

While we were in the Mosque, the Prophet came out and said, "Let us go to the Jews" We went out till we reached Bait-ul-Midras. He said to them, "If you embrace Islam, you will be safe. You should know that the earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle, and I want to expel you from this land. So, if anyone amongst you owns some property, he is permitted to sell it, otherwise you should know that the Earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle." (Bukhari 53:392)

After announcing his intentions, Muhammad sought an apology to take land from those Jews who refused to convert to Islam. His first goal was a tribe that had recently been in a conflict with the other two. Muhammad has correctly advised that the two other Jewish tribes would not come to support the Banu Qaynuqa tribe during a siege.

Muhammad's excuse has been an incident in which a Muslim was killed by the angry Jewish mob. The fact that the mob was furious because the Muslim in question had just murdered a Jewish merchant for the honor of a woman is sometimes denied by contemporary advocates of Islam who nevertheless admit that Muhammad decided to siege the Qaynuqa fort instead of his peaceful determination To agitation.

This point is important. According to Muslim historians, the first blood shed was when a Jew was murdered by a Muslim for playing a prank on a Muslim woman (by lifting her dress). The Muslim was killed in retaliation by those who had just witnessed the murder.

On what basis is physical violence - much less murder - justified by such a prank? Moreover, if Muhammad believed in the Old Testament law of the "eye for eye," why did he not recognize the legitimacy of the second killing against the inequality of the first?

In any case, the self-proclaimed prophet of God answered with a self-serving power against a people who had taken him into their community less than two years earlier. Unprepared for the battle, the Qaynuqa surrendered to their former guest without fighting.

Muhammad wanted to kill the entire tribe, but this was ruined by an Arab friend who was horrified by his intentions:

Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Salul went to him when God had put them in his power and said, "O Muhammad, deal kindly with my clients" (now they were allies of Khazraj), but the apostle put him off. He repeated the words, and the apostle turned away from him, whereupon he thrust his hand into the collar of the apostle's robe; the apostle was so angry that his face became almost black.
He said, "Confound you, let me go."
He answered, "No, by God, I will not let you go until you deal kindly with my clients. Four hundred men without mail and three hundred mailed protected me from all mine enemies; would you cut them down in one morning? By God, I am a man who fears that circumstances may change"
The apostle said, “You can have them.” (Ibn Ishaq/Hisham 546)

Muhammad allowed the Jews of Qaynuqa to escape with what they could carry. He confiscated their wealth and their land, took a fifth for himself and gave the remaining to the rest of the Muslims. (According to the Koran, this was their punishment for those who do not believe in Muhammad. 3:10-12)

The man who saved the lives of the Jews was later called from Muhammad to be a hypocrite, and it is obvious that he deeply regretted his decision not to kill the Qaynuqa. One of the nine Koranic verses, which forbids Muslims taking Jews and Christians as friends, was "revealed" at this time.

Thus, Muhammad was able to fulfill his own promise that "Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), they will be among the lowest (most humiliated)." (Koran 58:20), further strengthening his credibility among the Muslims and inspiring fourteen centuries of unrelenting jihad in his name to his followers.

Koran: Other religions are cursed by Allah

my religion / your religion = warBuddhists in Thailand, Jews in Israel, Christians in Indonesia, Hindus in India ... Why is the Islam at war with any great world religion when none of these religions is at war?

A part of reason is that the Koran is specific about the inferiority of other faiths (see 48:28) and the hate which Allah has for their people.

Although religious Muslims are usually annoyed when someone "offends" their religion, here is what the Koran says about Jews and Christians:

And the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: Messiah is the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers of old. Allah's Curse be on them, how they are deluded away from the truth! (9:30 see also Bukhari 8:427; One of the last things that Muhammad said on his deathbed: "May Allah curse the Jews and Christians.")

The Koran refers specifically to Christians, Jews, polytheists (Hindus) and atheists:

Christians are unbelievers (98:5-6) and blasphemers (5:17, 5:73) who have invented a lie about Allah (10:68-69) by sharing Allah's (i.e. trinity) partners call. The worst sin is the invention of a lie about Allah (7:37, 29:68) and for this reason the Christians are condemned to hell (10:70). Although an early-Medinan verse seems to say that just Christians are coming to heaven, this is abolished by later verses that make it very clear that Christians must cease to be Christian (i.e. reject the trinity) or eternal torments for their faith (5:72-73).

Jews are also cursed by Allah in one of the last "pronouncements" of Muhammad (5:13). The Koran assures Muslims that Jews are evil (4:160-162) - so evil that they somehow managed to do the impossible (18:27) and to change the word of Allah (2:75). Jews are "liar" and "devour the forbidden" (5:42). They are the worst enemies of Muslims (5:82)

The Koran assures to the faithful that Jews and Christians have "sick hearts" (5:52). Allah even refers to the position of enmity to them (5:14). Only Jews and Christians who submit to Islamic rule and pay Jizya are protected in this world (9:29 & Ibn Ishaq 956).

Hindus are polytheists. Although Muhammad did not knew Hindus (and apparently Allah did not), the Koran created the foundation for the 1000-year ethnic cleansing action against the Hindu people, which estimated an estimated ten million innocent lives. In Islam, the polytheists are worse than all other religions. Those who connect idols (11:14) with Allah also invent lies (29:17) and will burn in hell. Even believing in other divine units together with Allah is an unpardonable crime (4:48, 40:12).

Atheists believe in no God, which is worse than believing in the wrong (Muhammad and his successors had killed atheists - Bukhari 84:57). But the question of the existence of Allah is a proof of disbelief (25:21). Muhammad answered only questions by telling the requesting party that they would go to hell if they did not believe in him (36:49-64). The Koran discourages Muslims from the intellectual investigation (5:101-102).

Every Muslim who gives up his religion is a "perverted transgressor" (3:82). Pervert is also everyone who denies Allah (40:63) or does not believe to Mohammad (2:99). Conscience does not exist in Islam. Muhammad clearly prescribed the death penalty (Bukhari 52:260).

While the contemporary advocates of the Islam often speak about "dialogue" they do not mean the real meaning of the word. They understand the unilateral arrangement in which they are talking about the Islam, while others are listening. Among other things, the Koran talks about jihad:

So obey not the disbelievers, but strive against them (by preaching) with the utmost endeavour, with it (the Qur'an). (25:52)

What would be the point when you hear something that a non-Muslim has to say ... or even talk to? Allah has already sealed their hearts and condemned them to hell:

Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe. (2:6)
Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allah's Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. (2:7)

For those who ask why Allah has created even unbelievers when their ultimate goal is hell, Muhammad said that the purpose of some (at least Jews and Christians) is to take the place of the Muslims so that they do not suffer in hell (Sahih Muslim 6666).

Koran: People of other religions in this world are to be severely punished

ViolenceAllah himself is fighting the unbelievers (9:30), why should Muslims no longer fight in his cause as in the cause of evil (4:76)? About 19% of the Quran devote themselves to the violent conquest and subjugation of non-Muslims:

And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery, etc.) to threaten the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allah does know. And whatever you shall spend in the Cause of Allah shall be repaid unto you, and you shall not be treated unjustly. (8:60)

O Prophet (Muhammad)! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be severe against them, their abode will be Hell, and worst indeed is that destination. (66:9 - see also 9:73)

Muslims expect a reward in this life as well as in the next one (4:134), so it makes sense that even in this life unbelievers are getting punished:

Is then He (Allah) Who takes charge (guards, maintains, provides, etc.) of every person and knows all that he has earned (like any other deities who know nothing)? Yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: "Name them! Is it that you will inform Him of something He knows not in the earth or is it (just) a show of false words." Nay! To those who disbelieve, their plotting is made fairseeming, and they have been hindered from the Right Path, and whom Allah sends astray, for him, there is no guide. (13:33)

For them is a torment in the life of this world, and certainly, harder is the torment of the Hereafter. And they have no protector against Allah. (13:34)

There are at least two places in the Quran, where the violent death of non-Muslims is designated as Allah's reward for unbelief (2:191, 9:26), as in "that is the reward for unbelievers." Verse 3:56 states that "those who reject faith" are punished with terrible torment in this world (a vow that Muhammad and his companions took personally to fulfill).

The Quran tells Muslims that Allah uses them to severely punish others:

Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people, (9:14)

Verse 4:102, says that Allah has prepared a humiliating torment for the unbelievers. Stories from Muhammad's life show only minor differences between the punishment of Allah and the violence from the hands of faithful Muslims.

Allah can kill unbelievers by himself, but he makes it a test for Muslims to prove their faith:

So, when you meet (in fight Jihad in Allah's Cause), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives). Thereafter (is the time) either for generosity (i.e. free them without ransom), or ransom (according to what benefits Islam), until the war lays down its burden. Thus [you are ordered by Allah to continue in carrying out Jihad against the disbelievers till they embrace Islam (i.e. are saved from the punishment in the Hell-fire) or at least come under your protection], but if it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost, (47:4)

One of the most brutal chapters in the Quran makes Muhammad and his followers to the "superior over all religions" (9:33).

Verse 8:55 compares unbelievers with animals. In line with this issue, this passage encourages the Muslims to win over them "dominance" and severely punish and intimidate the rest:

So if you gain the mastery over them in war, punish them severely in order to disperse those who are behind them, so that they may learn a lesson. (8:57)

At the end, all beings in heaven and on earth will be compelled to bow down in front of Allah, either willingly or by force:

And unto Allah (Alone) falls in prostration whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and so do their shadows in the mornings and in the afternoons. (13:15)

Muslims are told that "Allah loves those who fight in his own way" that Islam is "victorious over all other religions", even though the unbelievers resist (61:4-11). Those who resist against the Islam will get humbled:

Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), they will be among the lowest (most humiliated). (58:20 - The context for this verse is the expulsion of the Jewish tribes from Medina and the confiscation of their wealth, land and children by Muhammad)

Non-Muslims are to be fought until all religion is only for Allah:

And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world ]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do. (8:39 - Some translate the word "fitna" as "persecution," but in this context it means resistance to Islam - in the predecessor version as unwillingness to believe [cf verse 8:38]. This passage was "revealed" after a battle that deliberately provoked by Muhammad. Verse 2:193 essentially says the same, and was also "revealed" at a time when the Muslims were not under physical attack).

Those with "sick hearts," including Christians and Jews according to verse 5:52, are said to be "slaughtered" (33:60-2) along with the "hypocrites" (Muslims, who cannot get judged as true believers for their associations with unbelievers or their unwillingness), or should engage themselves in jihad.

Non-Muslims are to be attacked, set under pressure and punished by the Muslims

See they not that We gradually reduce the land (of disbelievers, by giving it to the believers, in war victories) from its outlying borders. And Allah judges, there is none to put back His Judgement and He is Swift at reckoning.. (13:41 see also 21:44)

Then leave Me alone with such as reject this Message: by degrees shall We punish them from directions they perceive not. (68:44)

And He caused you to inherit their lands, and their houses, and their riches, and a land which you had not trodden (before). And Allah is Able to do all things. (33:27 - see also Bukhari 53:392)

Allah will grant the Muslims power and authority over all other humans:

Allah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). (24:55)

Muhammad's companion continued this prophecy with an aggressive and senseless military expansion that left a trace of the dead from Spain through North Africa to India.

Allah gives the Muslims instructions for dealing with unbelievers who are not willing to accept Islamic rules:

(Remember) when your Lord inspired the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes." (8:12)
This is because they defied and disobeyed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever defies and disobeys Allah and His Messenger, then verily, Allah is Severe in punishment. (8:13)

To defeat Non-Muslims should be easy for true believers because they are superior in intelligence and understanding:

O Prophet (Muhammad)! Urge the believers to fight. If there are twenty steadfast persons amongst you, they will overcome two hundred, and if there be a hundred steadfast persons they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they (the disbelievers) are people who do not understand. (8:65)

Well, with the intelligence of the Muslims it should not be far. They are so intelligent that they cannot life together. In addition, they may be so busy with praying that there is no time left for other things in life. One can see also the amount of the inventions of the last 1400 years, in which Muslims have been involved, how intelligent the Muslims are.

Remember that the Quran teaches that not all people are equal to Islam. This also applies to Muslims with regard to their aggressiveness towards the unbelievers. Those who are killed or killed in the name of Islam rejoice Allah more:

Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame, etc.), and those who strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward; (4:95)
